THE DORPER SHEEP
The Dorper sheep was developed in the 1930's by the Department of Agriculture of
South Africa when they did a crossing with a Dorset Horn Ram and
Blackhead Persian ewes.
In 1946 the breed project was finalized and the Dorper Breeders Association was establish on the 19th of July 1950 (at Grootfontein College of Agriculture) and currently we have more than 600 members. Although the Dorper breed was declared indigenous to South Africa, it has found it's way all over the world (Australia, New Zealand, UK, Middle East, China, Canada, Germany, Switzerland,Brazil, Argentine, South America, Mexico, United States, various African countries, Israel, Namibia) were farmers now farm with this magnificent sheep because of the breeds outstanding qualities.
